Emo is actually more of an ill-fitting preppy look. It's not "black and red" and dressing dark as a whole as some people think. So if you have stores near you that have vintage style clothes, specifically earth tone sweaters and tight jeans in any wash, vintage style polos (these would fit tighter than normal) or even a second hand store then you can dress Emo easily. I've had Emo acquaintances in the past and the only stores they shopped at were Urban Outfitters, Gap and Old Navy.
Then complete the look with a shaggy haircut and side-swept bangs.

I imagine that most emos wear black goth style clothing. Im sure there is plenty of mystic/goth shops in the back alleys of bristol, however most fashion is black and very goth type at the moment.. its also worth checking out high street stores for inspiration.

I would strongly suggest Hot Topic or Pac Sun if they have them in the UK. I'm not emo, and I haven't been into the stores, but they look emo-ish when you walk past them.

You should get a light colored t-shirt and some permanent markers (Sharpie) and create something that is entirely yours.
Just remember to put cardboard inside so the ink doesn't go through the other side.
