If a pregnant woman is not ready to parent, and the biological father is unfit, why do people think the girl is being selfish if she chooses to place the child for adoption?

I have a friend who is going through this right now, and a lot of people have responded very negatively to the adoption.(though most of them are connected with the biological father.)

If she didn't love and care about the child, wouldn't she have just aborted it rather than placing the child in a loving home?

Probably they think that if a girl can commit to carrying it all that time and feel nothing for the baby when it's born, then they are emotionally dead or selfish.
And why would you think she cared nothing for the child? If that were true, she would have aborted it no problem! Isn't choosing to give her child a better life than she can give it showing the ultimate love?

I cant imagine any intelligent person would think a woman is selfish for placing a child up for adoption. Carrying a child for 9 months only to allow another to raise it is possibly one of the most unselfish things someone can do.

i have never thought a girl was selfish to give up a child for adoption, and i am not sure anyone in their right mind would. For the record I am adamantly pro choice and advocate for the womans right to choose. I still however believe that adoption is the best option in a n ideal situation, but ideal for me is less then ideal for someone else, and I would never ever presume to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. On the other hand why is adoption considered a perfectly legitimate means of taking responsibility for your actions, when abortion, which is at this time a perfectly legal option NOT considered taking responsibility?

Well Miss D - the problem is you think the father is unfit - but he is not. The problem with your friend is she never gave the father a chance to assert his parental wishes by lying (saying she had a miscarriage when she had not) and not returning his phone calls to let him know what has going on. Just because she was not ready to be a parent doesn't mean that the babies father was not. It is not for your friend to decide if Cody is unfit (yes, its my brother) but the courts.
Your question also makes it seem your friends's daughters biological father wanted her to have an abortion. That was never the case. When she brought it up he let her know he was 100 percent against it.

They don't....it's the people who choose to have an abortion over adoption because it's too "hard" to give the baby away once you're carried it for 9 months...on the other hand...why do they feel it's better to kill the baby than give it up?

I believe you can't say all people feel this way. I think it's totally up to the woman carrying the child...her body, her life, her choice.

our country is so over populated as it is. (USA) everyday more people come here legally and illegally its so bad that the job you people ratio is so rediculously off that most of america is living way below the poverity line. the way america works is the rich get richer and the poor keep getting poorer. people are so poor and the rich ***** about footing their bills with taxes. i dunno maybe one day this country will have some standards and morals but right now everyone is evil and greedy. its the governments fault. damn the man! and all that great stuff.

What percentage of people are telling your friend this? Do you really think "society" thinks this as opposed to "some" of the people think this?
