I have a horrible habit of biting my nails. And I've come to the conclusion that if i get fake ones I'll think they're too pretty to bite, so I'll just stop.
The only problem is, I wear contacts. And I'm not too sure if I would be able to put them in and take them out easily with longer nails.
I also play violin and am not too sure if they would get in my way.
It's not like i would have HUGE ones. But, I'm still unsure if they will get in my way in those areas.
Any violinists and contact users ever had them?
And even if you aren't, are they hard to deal with?
I've never had them before, as pathetic as it sounds.
Thanks so much!

I have had them many times...and they don't help with the nail biting thing...I still manage to chew my way through them!! However, you can still get them and get them short and they won't interfere with putting in/taking out your contacts...they will take a little getting used to with playing violin (I play guitar) and they usually HURT for a couple days after you first get them put on. So, is it worth the money? Probably not. But, why don't you go to a beauty store and ask them if they have the clear nailpolish that taste really bad! That way, when you go to bite your nails, it's really gross. It's just getting out of the habit that's the hard part! Once you get yourself out of the habit of biting your nails, it's all down hill from there!

Why not buy some of those press-on nails, they make them in "sport" length, which is a little shorter, and you can also clip and file them shorter if you want. This would give you an idea of what they would feel like and if they get in the way or not.

I bit my nails for years; finally started using a nail strengthener and wearing polish to help stop my bad habit. Still took a couple of months to quit!

I play guitar, used to play violin, and I find guitar a hell of a lot harder with fake nails, and I think violin would be hard too.
You can get stuff to put on your nails, it comes in a little tub with a sponge and you just put your finger tips in it and it makes them taste NASTY! It's totally odorless but the taste is so horrible you'll never want to bite your nails again. You can buy it from your local pharmacy.

Yes, I am a contacts and I cannot put my contacts in or take them out with fake nails. I had EXTREME pain when I tried to do this. If you wear contacts or play sports I advise you strongly not to use them. To help you to quit biting your nails go to the drug store ad buy some bad tasting nail polish.

Get stick on nails. Put them on in the morning take them off at night. If you find it hard to play with them take them off for playing and put them back on when your done.

I know people with contacts that have fake nails they don't seem to have a problem with it though I'm sure it was no easy at first.

get stick on nails until you are used to them then go for silk, acrylics, or tips.

Yes, they would get in the way putting in contacts, playing the violin, driving, typing, writing, and pretty much everything else. Which is why those women you see with them don't have jobs.

I got them for Halloween a few years ago. Couldn't wait to get them off.

i have also had the bad habit of biting my nails--for as long as i can remember--and having fake nails did not help one bit, as i still chose to bite AROUND the nail...pathetic as it seems.
even now i go get regular manicures and although i quit biting, i still can't shake putting my fingers in my mouth.
and i have never gotten used to taking my contacts out with my nails.

Dear heart, I hate to tell you this, but you simply *cannot* play the violin with long nails. You can't. I had one student at UC Irvine, I had to give her an incomplete. It can't be done. Fiddle, maybe. Not violin seriously. Can't do it. So sorry.
