The Republican Party did not stand behind Bob Dole, like they should have (Ivoted for him, by the way). But I was amazed at how little the Democrats did to try to make him look bad. His own party abandoned him, and would not even show up at his allies.

Well, lets see. Harry S. Truman, Artillery, US Army. Lyndon Johnson, US Navy (I think C.B'ss). James Earl Carter, US Navy, Nuclear Submarine Commander. Reagan never even went through Basic Training. He was given a direct commision and made training movies. Our current 'commander of chief' signed up, went through training, then decided to go AWOL. Now, when Dole got the Republican nomination, there were not very many republicans hitting the road to help him with his campeign. When John McCain wanted the nomination in 2000, the Bush side of the Republican party tried to say that his time as a POW was not that rough. There are no Republicans that are being looked at by the Republican Party except for McCain (which I will vote for if he gets the nomination). Most of the people in the Bush Cabinet are none veterans. There are more Democrats in the US Legislature that are veterans than Republicans. When I was first discharged, RM Nixon and GR Ford vetoed amny veterans readjustment bills.

What are you talking about?
John McCain is the Republican party's best nomination for president. He's a Vietnam War Vet. He was a prisoner of war for heaven's sake!
Do you enjoy asking questions under false pretenses?
Do some research every once in a while.
Republicans don't hate veterans, and most veterans don't hate republicans.
Don't you see that this kind of false statement/question alienates people from the truth? People like you are a huge problem.

Until the 1990s pretty much all the candidates of both parties were veterans. You might recall General Dwight Eisenhower, who was a Republican. Democrats such as John Kennedy and Jimmy Carter were also leaders in the armed forces.
Many of today's Republican leaders differ with veterans, because those who have served in war tend not to be as gung-ho toward fighting as those who order others.

The Republicans are the ones who are much more vocal in respecting and honoring our veterans.
Ronald Reagan was a veteran. George Bush (our current President's father) is a veteran. Stop trying to say hateful things just to get people worked up.
The Republican party is smart enough to only back electable candidates. Give them an electable Republican Veteran and they will get full backing. Hopefully, John McCain will be that candidate.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, Republican president from 1952 to 1960 was a 5-star General and Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in World War 2
1960 Republican nominee Richard M. Nixon served as a Navy lieutenant commander in the Pacific during World War II.
Barry Goldwater, the 1964 Republican nominee, was an active duty Air Force pilot during WW2, and later became a Major General in the Air Force reserve.
In 1968, and again in 1972, the aforementioned WW2 veteran Nixon was elected President.
1976 Republican nominee Gerald R. Ford joined the United States Naval Reserve in 1942 and served valiantly at sea on the USS Monterey (CVL-26) during World War II, taking part in major operations in the Pacific, including at Makin Island, Kwajalein, Truk, Saipan, and the Philippine Sea. The USS Monterey earned 10 battle stars, awarded for participation in battle, while Gerald R. Ford served on the vessel.
1980 and 1984 winner, Republican Ronald Reagan served in the Army Air Force on active duty during all throughout WW2.
1988 Republican winner and 1992 loser George H. W. Bush was a Naval Aviation fighter pilot who flew many combat missions during WW2. (1992 Democrat winner Bill Clinton was a war protester who skirted militay service)
1996 Republican nominee Bob Dole served throught WW2 and was awarded two Bronze Stars for "Heroism Under Fire" as well as several Purple Hearts. (See above for 1996 winner Clinton)
2000 and 2004 winner George W. Bush did not see duty overseas, but did serve honorably for two years on active duty in the Air National Guard, where he flew the F-104 fighter.
I trust this answers your stupid question?

George H.W. Bush, do some research before you ask such dumb questions. In terms of hating veterans I'm pretty sure it was liberals who spit in the face of our soldiers returning from Vietnam

I think you'd have to go back to the 19th century to find a GOP president who never wore a uniform. In the case of the Democrats....just 6 years.
