Am thinking about relocating from Madison, WI to Seattle -- any thoughts or suggestions about life in Seattle?

Pros
~ Beautiful scenery, not just in Seattle, but the surrounding areas.
~ Moderate weather, at least compared to Madison (I'm originally from Michigan)
~ Politically liberal and all that goes with it (recycling laws, cleaner air, water, etc.)
~ Plenty of jobs with decent pay and benefits.
~ Well-educated population (in general)
~ The neighborhoods in Seattle are a bonus for someone who is coming from a smaller town, because they give the impression of a smaller, more intimate city, but you still have the big city amenities nearby.

Cons
~ Traffic
~ Housing prices
~ Lack of daylight hours, being farther north than another other metropolitan city in the continental US, we only get about 6-7 hours of cloudy, gloomy daylight in the midst of winter.

People here are pretty much like people everywhere...there are friendly people and unfriendly people. I will say that in general, people seem more guarded here than they do back in the Midwest.

Hope that helps...good luck to you!

Need more info? what are your plans for work? The cost of living is very high we have the worlds richest man living really close to people in seattle WA. Bill Gates
You will have to make at least $17.00 per hour to live ok. Roof over your head and maybe a car in the driveway.

Traffic is ... so bad, and the drivers are just nuts. It is a beautiful area, and there are lots of interesting things. But it also rains a lot, despite what native seattliets say. There are a bunch of hippies that like to protest. Its close to forest and beachs that are beautiful, and there is a pretty good job market. Apartments and rental house are ridiculusly expensive.
Overall it is about equal for with pros and cons, if you want to live in seattle I suggest living outside of seattle.

Bad things...

1. Horrid weather from about late october until early may. You can go weeks straight without seeing the sun easily. But the summers are very nice.

2. Growing crowds. The city can be very tough to navigate with your car at times.

3. Getting right up there with the most expseive cities to live.

Good things

1. Very modern , clean city with a low crime rate.

2. Friendly locals as long as you stay on their good side.

3. VEry competitive wages in most industries.
