after a few days, they die and dry out and make a mess.. and you don't feel like cleaning it up. And you would rather have them spend that 60 bucks on something more fun and enjoyable. How do you say it without sounding mean or suggesting you don't like him?

Give him a roundabout answer of "I remember the last time somone gave me flowers for valentines day. They were just so pretty, but it was such a shame because they only lasted a few days, leaving me this dead mess to clean up. I would have so preffered (insert gift of choice here), but I guess he didn't think about it."

If he's trying to be better than your last guy, he'll grab the bait and not get you flowers.

How about like you just did: I don't like getting flowers because they die and then I have to clean them up. I'd rather go on a really fun date for Valentines with you....

Say it exactly like that. Let him know that flowers don't mean as much, because they look nice but die and go away. Spending time together is a much better way to spend money, because the memories will last a lot longer. ;)

Atousa, I think you'll find that flowers can last a LOT longer than you t hink! Check out www.sendflowerbouquets.com for tips on prolonging the life of your flowers. Harvard University researchers have shown that the presence of flowers improves people's moods! Maybe you can follow the suggestions posted on that site and actually be happy that you accepted the flowers from him! :)

I feel the same way. The prices for roses skyrocket for one day, and then in just a couple of days they die, and then your left with nothing. When my fiance', and I started dating he got me roses, and especially on sweetest day. But, I told him, as much as I loved them, that it's just not something that I can keep for my gifts from him. So, I ask for something from the heart and not from money. However, if you still get roses, which is still VERY sweet, take a picture of them, and at least that you will always have. That's what I have done. I'm working on a scrapbook, of us since we've been together, so my pics of my roses of the past will be in there.

Just make hints. I wouldn't just flat out say...Don't get me flowers. Hint on what you want. If you wanted something like...a massage...Say something like...."My back's been hurting lately, I would LOVE to have a professional massage!" Something along the lines of that. ~Make sure you say professional or he'll give you one! lol! Which sometimes isn't bad, but girls need a little pampering sometimes! : ) Good Luck!

Simple--talk to him! Just come out and tell him that you really don't like getting cut flowers as gifts & why. Don't be grouchy about it, but just say it. If he's really into you he'll listen, if not, he isn't for you.

tell him you don't like flowers, but you do like candy..or something along those lines...if you are straight forward and blunt...he'll get the message...if you try to just hint, he won't.......guys don't think the same way as we do....blunt usually works best....
