I would say no, if I did not know the person well.
There are a lot of weirdos out there and you want to try to find out if the person you are dining with is one of them before you have a meal all alone with them. You want to be in a public place with lots of witnesses. If you are having a first date in the home with someone, tell a friend where you will be, in case your date does turn out to be a pyschopath. Then, the police will know where to find you if your date decides to lock you in his basement.

Depends on how close both of you are. If the other party is comfortable enough with you, dining in should be fine but i would still think for a first date, go out to somewhere relaxed and perhaps adjourn for coffee at some nice coffee outlets. In this way you will not seem overly zealous with trying to be alone with the other party.

Though I haven't dated in a long time I always found dining a little awkward. I tried to pick an activity that we both enjoyed to add to the conversation if there was a second date which would be dinner.

No, because usually when you have the dining in date, its more like when you are a few weeks or months into the relationship and want to get some.

To be honest, no. If you go out for a dinner, you could have awkward silences that can only be filled by yourselves and you may not like each others eating habits!! Go out for a drink first and break the ice. The noise and people around will act as a distraction and make you feel a little bit better around your date while you think of things to say!!

I think that going to a resraunt is a good first date. You get to know each other and what each of you like to eat because restraunts have a huge variety. If you go to the other persons house, you don't get a choice of what you really like and you kinda get stuck with whatever is made. Going is the perfect first date.

Try an appetizer in a quaint outdoor place...You may not want her to know where you live..save the dining in for the next time

Only if you know the other person, say if you were friends before. Otherwise, I wouldn't feel comfortable going to someone's house without knowing who they were first. Maybe on a second date though, especially if it is home cooked!

what do you mean dining in? at home or at a restaurant? if you mean at home, it might be kinda wierd. going out somewhere is best, unless you have known the person for a while.
