Oh, it's all explained in Genesis.

Genesis 1:3---And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Genesis 1:5---And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day

Genesis 1:16---And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

So, you see, God decided that there should be a sun to rule the day. Who are you to argue with God?

On my world, the sun is up during the day.

The sun does not rise or set. It is just because of the rotation of the earth around its own axis that it feels like it. The side of the earth facing the sun gets daylight and the other side gets none and vice versa when the earth turns.
