Umm, gay men are not after women. Perhaps you might want to ask this question somewhere others than the LGBT section.
So therefore, there is no "always," and no logic in your "question."
STRAIGHT (and bi) men are genetically programmed to "go after" women. That's how they were born.

In what sense?
1. Not all men go after women.
2. In the Middle Ages an age of chivalry was borne which placed women as a fairer and gentler sex under the protection of their strong brutish males...the result of which is that men are (or were) expected to allow women to go first.
3. This doesn't always apply, in certain other cultures the women follow their men.

Men produce millions of sperm per ejactulation.
Men are more programed to mate then women they have to compete for the pleasure to mate.
