It is the emotions and the memories that are somehow in your pocketbook or wallet, that make you different from others: The memories of the trip you took, each time you pull out the credit card with which you paid- The party and the presents, when you find old receipts- The bravery of the little child who got a shot, when you find the old lollypop wrapper- The cruelty of separation, when you find an old club card reminding you of the last time you were with ____ - The countless names and phone numbers and appointments and wrappers from things shared- A cat hair or dog hair or horse hair-Pictures of family and friends and events-an old letter from a lover or friend or child or aunt or uncle- A charm from a friend or relative overseas, until your friend returns from the battlefield-The names and faces of acquaintances that arise and the voices that speak in the cards and letters and little trinkets from stores and events that were not yet discarded, and the longer they are kept, become part of the nostalgia that makes it very much harder to clean an old wallet or pocketbook than a newer one.
