i add water conditioner/dechlor stuff. and liquid ferts for my plants.
one of my bettas gets aquarium salt, he was a bit of a welfare case and is still on the mend. i don't put it in my other tanks as they have otocinclus and/or snails, neither of which would tolerate the salt.

Nothing but a pinch of salt. With proper aeration and filtration, you can get away with that and keep fish happy for many years.
