I would be tempted if it was anything over $500 or so, but I would probably turn it in nonetheless. This is because I once lost something very valuable and it was returned to me against all odds by a very wonderful person who could have just as easily kept it (and by all rights should have...it took a lot of work on their part to figure out who I was and track me down). Also, I have the luxury of having enough money to meet my needs. I am not rich, or even well-to-do, but I could see how the situation might be different if I or my kids were hungry...I'm not sure I could judge someone for making a different choice. I could judge the action as right or wrong in an abstract sense, but not the person, necessarily.

I always remember the times I lost my wallet or phone and wished people handed them back. When they do I'm forever grateful. (I don't know why - but I lose a lot of em!) So I always put myself in their shoes ... based on experience.

If it carried a picture of their family or loved one I think most people would be even more inclined to hand it back in an instant. Probably because it'd make the 'human' connection that we all want and need.

No amount of money would make me keep a wallet, or phone or anything else for that matter - provided I can find the owner!

when i was a school kid, my pal and i found a wallet with money and credit cards etc. we were brought up to hand those kinda things over to the local police station, which we did. three weeks later, we went back to the cops, they told us, the owner of the wallet had turned up and collected it but never thought of thanking us or even a small reward would have been appropriate. not a chance. thats life. the main thing is, we did the correct thing. our conscience is clear.

I'm too honest for my own good. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I benefitted from someone else's misfortune. To make it easier, I would have to put it to the Golden Rule and ask all that answer; HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU HAD DROPPED YOUR WALLET?

I say this because I lost my wallet a few years ago and had it returned to me completely restored every dollar and every penny!

I would hand it in no matter what, And I already have. Found a handbag with credit cards, mobile phone money. Gave it to police. If I lost mine I would hope the person who found it would be as honest as me!!!!

I use to work at a lot of places pushing shopping carts inside the building... like Kmart and Walmart.

And I use to always find purses left in the shopping carts. I just turned them all in to security/loss prevention/loss control. Never really had the urge to steal.

So my answer to your question, I would hand it in no matter what.

I'm no more honest than anyone else, but I'd hand it the wallet because I know how annoyingly inconvenient it is to have all those bits of paperwork replaced.

I would feel happier handing it in, whatever was inside it. I would only feel guilty that maybe the person needed the money more than me, or that the wallet was a treasured gift or something...so I'd be the one suffering (from doubts and guilt) wouldn't I!?

I would hand it in no matter what. Being greedy is terrible. What if it was the heating bill money for a family, the food money for the week, money for back-to-school clothes?

I'd like to think I wouldn't look to see how much money was in the wallet - that way I wouldn't even be tempted. So no matter how much was in there.
