Are you secretly, desperately hoping that this song does NOT apply to you? Or do you know the exact person (name, DOB & SS#) that they wrote this song about?

The Grouch - Green Day

I was a young boy that had big plans
Now I'm just another sh*tty old man
I don't have fun
I hate everything
The world owes me so f*ck you . . . .
I drank a six pack of apathy . . . .
Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals . . . .
I've decomposed yet my guts getting fat
Oh my God I'm turning out like my dad . . .

There is an even better line later about “performance anxiety” but I am already thinking that I have earned a violation for this. (in reference to the above mentioned song, even the word "violation" sounds funny to me) They have so many funny/sad but true songs but this is my favorite.

So tell us, exactly how secure are you now that you are in thirty something land? (I mean, why do you think I find it funny?)

Oh come on! Nobody knows this guy? He is infamous! This guy is 100% serious and really believes that he is justified. Every time he opens his mouth you either giggle, roll your eyes, or mentally replay "say hello to my little friend". And the funniest part about it (just like stinky people) is that he has absolutely no idea that he IS "this guy".

If you honestly don’t know what I am talking about, count yourself among the fortunate.

Some of us are related to this guy, a very unlucky few might meet him in divorce court, might have him for a boss, might have him for a next door neighbor (you know, the kind that constantly wants a ride and a babysitter)

I wonder if "this guy" has or will answer this question . . . . Not to poke fun at anybody in particular, but it would have been funny if someone had seriously said, “oh yeah, I’m just like my dad, the world owes me” so what do you do? Laughter / homicidal fantasy . . . . laughter / homicidal fantasy???

I'm actually more secure after reading the lyrics to this song. It's pretty sad. I don't feel anything like this, and I don't know of anyone else who is this bad off.

I'm very secure now that I'm a thirty something. Far more than when I was in my twenties. I finally know me and know what I will and will not tolerate and am not afraid to say it.

Viva la Thirties!!!
