I am curious as to about how much it would cost to paint (house currently has lead paint) the inside of an 8-room house (two floors), completely remodel the bathroom and kitchen, sand the hardwood floors, wallpaper all rooms, and put down new linoleum on the kitchen floor and update all the electrical outlets (service has been updated from the street and in the cellar). The house has new windows and a new heating system. Hopefully, answers will be from construction people who have experience. Thanks!

First off, the lead paint removal MUST be done by someone who has been trained (and in most states licensed) to do so. Lead paint is classified hazardous material and requires special disposal procedures, as well as a post-removal inspection. DO NOT attempt to do it yourself. Every case is different, and depend on the amount of lead paint to be removed, but a safe estimate would be in the range of $1000 per room just for the lead work. Contact your local health department to get the names of licensed lead removal specialists.
If you have lead paint, there is also the possibility that you could have asbestos in the house. The most common sources are floor tiles and pipe insulation. Again, this is something that requires a specialist, and is not a do it yourself job. Chances are, the lead specialist will be able to handle asbestos as well.
As far as the rest of the work you mentioned, they are all dependant on where you are, local price of material, and availability of competition in the area. For instance, the electrical work could range anywhere from $40 to $80 (or more) per man per hour, plus materials and permits. If you have a local hardware store or small home center (NOT Home Depot or Lowes -- I mean a privately owned place), ask the owner to recommend some general contractors. Expect to pay for an estimate, but most will apply the estimate fee toward the total bill if you give them the job.

I am going through this. I have finished drywalling four rooms. Two rooms are sanded and two have already been painted. I did buy a little more sheetrock then was needed. Just go at it a room at a time. There was wallpaper on the walls already. We did remove the paper. All the walls were solid plank. This was an older home. I had a friend to help me put the sheetrock up. This work is very tiring. The worst were the ceilings. Thank goodness you don't have to do this. It should be very easy since they don't need to be drywalled. You will need sheet rock mud, sheetrock tape, and sand paper. Be sure to buy a cutter for the sheetrock. It is just a little knife to scape a line. To cut, all you do is tap when finished.

You dont' want to know cost, because that will vary based on the location the house is in, the contracter you are able to make a deal with, and the amount of red tape you have to go through with the local gov. You want to ask how much TIME that sort of job would probably take.
