Inspiring others to follow you, as opposed to barking orders at someone. A leader accepts responsibility for his mistakes, is modest during his victories, and leads for a greater cause instead of glory for himself. He will know not only how to manage tasks, but people.

There are two essential qualities in a leader, direction and charisma. To have direction is to have purpose. Someone can not lead if they do not know where they are going. Charisma is a measure of your effect on other people. Do they listen when you speak. You can have the best ideas in the world, but if no one takes you seriously it won't matter.

a leader has nothing to do with being first in line. contradictory to the name, a leader is someoone who thinks for themselves no matter where they are in life's scheme. falling behind, getting ahead, and staying the same are all part of being a leader. a true leader will never give up, and continue to do what they plan too no matter how rocky the road gets. a true leader is confident, trustworthy, and accepting of new ideas and principles. for these new things may enrich them on their strive to "lead" (for lack of a better word).

that's what a leader is to me anyway...

Bodhidharma sat facing the wall. The Second Patriarch, after standing outside in the snow for so long, cut off his arm. "My mind is not yet at peace. Please, Master, put my mind at peace."
Bodhidharma said: "Bring me your mind and I will pacify it for you."
The Second Patriarch replied: "Although I have searched my mind, it is totally ungraspable."
Bodhidharma said: "In that case I have pacified your mind for you."
