We get as bad of a rap as lawyers and home renovation people. You have to prove yourself with each and every client, and in turn, they will refer friends and family

There are a lot of Loan Officers out there. Many of them are viewed similar to a Used car salesman. The profession is good, but their is a negative stigma. The market for mortgage business is not as good as it was 3 years ago. If you are just getting started in this profession, I would suggest a different line of work.

If you are a loan officer with a mortgage broker, the perception is 3 X as bad! At least at a bank, some people will respect you.

My mom has been a loan officer for over 15 years. I never knew that there was a stigma involved with the career. As far as her business goes, she's honest with her clients and takes seminars to find ways to better help them and her build a better business relationship.

I think most loan officers are very helpful to their customers; I work in real estate. I think Realtors have more of a smarmy rep than loan officers.
