The Roman god Ianus, god of doorways and beginnings...he was said to have had two faces, one looking forward and one looking behind. Fitting for the month that begins the year!

All our months come from Roman names...some of them emperors (July, August), some from gods (January, February) and some from numbers (October, November, December).
