Because the US doesn't receive oil from Iraq. The problem with the War for Oil theory is that the Iraqi oil is such a low grade of oil that it is incapable of meeting US EPA standards no matter how much it is refined.

Because it wasn't about the oil. It was about the WMDs that the intelligence community and congressional committees insisted were there. It was because the UN insisted he be disarmed but never gave the proposal teeth. And it was about faulty intelligence propogated by a number of sources to indicate Saddam was not just blustering but was serious about attacking our strongest ally in the mideast. And because it involved that ally (and all the money its supporters throw into political campaigns) a super majorioty of the House and Senate approved a declaration to disarm Iraq.
