What other oilmen were presidents? You have George Bush Sr., and we went to war with Iraq. However, Iraq had invaded Kuwait. Lots of countries involved in that one. I do not blame him at all for that.
So which other oilmen are you referring to? You will need a few more before you can declare this a trend. I don't think LBJ was an oilman and even if he was, he did not declare any wars and he was not even elected so that does not follow with your trend.
To Gegleft, LBJ did not start the Vietnam war. That happened on Kennedy's watch. LBJ extended it though.

I don't know of anyone who was an oilman that was elected president. LBJ, who was from Texas, took us to war against Vietnam. I don't recall Vietnam being an oil country.
FDR, from New York, did take us to war against Romania (a major oil supplier to Germany). But FDR wasn't an oilman.
