I am not sure if the word "conspiracy" was used before the "protocols of the elders of zion" were fabricated. But the imagination of scary Jews who gather in secret for some evil schemes existed already in the middle ages. You know many believed that Jews slaughtered Christian children and caused the plague by poisoning wells and other horror stories and in these stories the Jews always "gather in secret". I read something in a Christian chronicle from that time - it seems quite obvious to me that this was an "inspiration" for every modern demonization of Jews and conspiracy theory. But the first real full blown conspiracy theory about a Jewish world control were the "protocols" as far as I know.

The "modern" conspiracy is based on the fact that Jews give interest for loans (and actually made loans) and interest for having people put money in the banks. Early Christians believed literally that there should be no debtor/borrowers (after a reference in the New Testement). This made Jewish banks popular and the reason some people thought the Jews owned the banks and therefore had the money.

Assuming that you're too smart to believe in such stupidity as the existence of a "Jewish Conspiracy," I can throw at least two researchable thingies your way:
1) The Spanish Inquisition, at least according to some modern writers, seemed to believe that the Jews were trying to control the flow of gold and that they were trying to sell bad meat to the Christians of their time in order to make them ill and to leave them spiritually impure.
2) The fabricated Protocol of The Elders of Zion, outlining an alleged Jewish conspiracy to control the world politically, though largely associated with the Nazis (who did use it for all, in fact more than that piece of fiction was worth) is now believed to have been a product of the Czarist secret police, the Sneva.

Armchair guy has it right on. The Elder scrolls of Zion hoax was used by Hitler as endless propaganda during his rise to power. It has been proved false.
I guess it still has legs,time to time because so many Jews are in media and banking.
