I have an idea to give a groovy mixed CD as a favor at a wedding reception. It would be for about 100 guests. The music comes from a variety of sources. Is that viewed as copyright infringement or is that still under Fair Usage? From what I've read the law is murky, but I don't want to do anything illegal!

You can do this legally by purchasing a mechanical license from BMI or ASCAP http://www.bmi.com or http://www.ascap.com.

Any other redistribution of copyrighted music, whether for profit or not, is forbidden under copyright law.

Unless you wrote and performed all of the songs yourself It is copyright infringement - the law is crystal clear

People get WAY, WAY too paranoid about copyrights. You're not selling them right? Who cares!!
