how can overpopulation be prevented?

It requires a concerted action from the government. No government is doing any serious step to contain population. All the progress that we made in the field of economy will come to nought, if the population growth is unchecked.

In olden days the kings use to battle for the wealth of others and in that process more youth use sacrifice their lives. Due to lack of medicines infant mortality was high and also the death of old people above 55 years was high. Due lack of transportation, medical assistance was not available to sick/ poor patients.

Now many of the above conditions have changed to the positive side. So longevity of a person has increased. But agricultural growth was high and hence shortage of food is high.

So every married couple should think of means of Birth control.
One can go to Family Welfare centres and take their advise and keep a small family.

Over population can be prevented by providing basic education to all and also by providing sex education to all adult members of society ,even from the age of adolescence.
Also, government should introduce social security schemes so that the citizens are taken care of by the government for life term and they need not be a dependent of their children.
At present ,children are considered as an asset by the elders to take care of them at their old age till they breathe their last.
This concept will be driven out if a sound social security system is introduced by the government for the citizens.
Governments can contemplate a scheme similar to that of PF fund and ensure the living and health care of all the citizens at an acceptable level of standards in their old age after retirement.
Western and developed countries have achieved better population control and even zero and negative growth of population by assuring minimum acceptable living and health care standards at old age for their citizens.

It can be prevented. China is dealing with this by not allowing more than one child per family. This is a very difficult edict to put into effect. I don't think the United States would even suggest it as they would face tremendous opposition by this society.

Now a days people are getting more health care.In order to reduce over population we cannot kill human beings so giving birth may be controled,and do no t give more health care by over population the use of natural resources are being less they too many years to come if they became no where in this world it will took many years to come again

Why earth is over populated? 1) poverty. 2) ignorance 3) lack of recreational facilities.
Poverty makes people hungry and sleep less.Make them frustrated and fear full.Need of offspring to get more for lively hood Lack of electricity and recreational facilities.
So the government has to give electricity to all the houses. Give job for at least to earn their lively hood. Give facilities for recreation.Every house has to have a T V at least. Otherwise procreation is the only recreation for the people which will increase the population
