No wise guys please. I would like to send a present to my friend in jail. But I am not certain about what type of things would be allowed or not. I assume that books would be fine. As would clothing? Any ideas?

You should contact the jail and they will tell you what is allowed to be sent to an inmate. Many jails and prisons will not allow anything to be sent to an inmate. It's been a Personal experience trying to do this for a family member.
I can't even have a publisher send a book direct to an inmate in any utah facility jail or prison.

Books would be fine, clothes wouldn't since they have to wear uniforms. If he's up for an appeal, a suit would be excellent, send it to his attorney, he'll be able to change before entering the court room. A deck of cards would probably go over well, maybe dominoes, not sure about them. I know alot of people in prison get into role playing games, so if he has any creative skills along making stories, some rule books for that sort of thing might go over well.
Bottom line, check with the prison about thier guidelines, they should be able to tell you easily.

I don't think I would send him anything. Might cause trouble and I think they are issued their clothing (orange suits). Sometimes Jails have Money cards. They purchage them and then and they are allowed to purchas stuff like cigerettes and magazines and stuff.

If your talking prison Towels check for the color I know grey and you had to have shipped from the store this was in Colo. But a nice size towel is better then what they are issued
