we remained in germany and japan AFTER a peace treaty was signed by both sides.
the only person who decided that major combat operations were over in iraq was bush and he was wrong.
we are going to see a lot of shrill, shrieking from the right as the catastrophe in iraq continues to unfold.
there is no getting around the fact that the decision to invade iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or the broader war on terror...

The only reason we are still on those places is because it suits our interests. It is beneficial to us to maintain bases in various parts of the world in the case that we need to deploy quickly to a conflict in that area.
Iraq is totally different. We are activly at war in iraq. We have more than 100,000 troops there and they are dying every day. Our troops are safe in Germany and Japan. They are not at war there. We are not there against the will of thier people.
The situations in FGermany and Iraq are not comparable in any way. The fact that you would even draw such a comparison shows that you have virtually no idea about what is going on in the world today.

Those aren't Muslim countries. They don't have 1000s of terrorists attacking us. And they are both well established functioning democracies that aren't caught in the middle of a civil war.

those countries we have bases in, they are nominally supportive and supporting those bases, we were protection against china, and russia. Iraq is falling apart due to our presence there, and is costing us billions and billions that wont ever be repaid no matter how much oil we steal and how many times we probe haliburtons price gouging.

We are not occupying those countries and there isn't armed conflict going on now. The terrorists need to be eliminated as soon as possible.

No one is getting killed in either of those to countrys. I am sure that if it was you or somebody that you loved that you would want to see them out of harms way ASAP.
