I had the same prob. I started working out and running and found it easier to fall asleep. Some people say that a glass of warm milk helps.

I use melatonin on occassion. It is not addictive. Melatonin is a natural chemical found in your brain. There are supplements found on the vitamin aisle. According to melatonin central:
"Melatonin is the all-natural nightcap. It's secreted by the pineal gland, a pea-size structure at the center of the brain, as our eyes register the fall of darkness." At night melatonin is produced to help our bodies regulate our sleep-wake cycles."
Taking the supplement just adds to an already natural chemical in our brain. Usually about 30 min after I take it, I am able to fall asleep. It doesnt leave you groggy the next morning like other sleep aides. It is all natural and not addictive.
You can go to the site that I have listed and get more information on melatonin.

I got some tips. First one, which is very small, is make sure your sheets and blankets are all neat when you go to bed. Having everything messy from tossing and turning will make it seem more uncomfortable. Secondly, try to listen to some soft music while you sleep. Ever heard of that expression "Its just too damn quiet", its common with a lot of people that can't fall asleep when its dead quiet. Besides that make sure your well fed and warm. Good luck

Try avoiding caffein drinks like cola, coffee etc. before sleeping and try reading books because it really makes your brain tired at the sleeping time and which makes you want to sleep and make sure your not hungry because hunger makes you awake as well. Hope this helps

I use to have this problem. Then I read a book on relaxation methods. I learned to apply these techniques through practice. You concentrate on relaxing one section of your body at a time starting with your toes. I never made it to my ankles before I fell asleep. Good luck.

Exercise or do sport till you are tire, then you can sleep everywhere, include in your new bed.
It works for me, when I go the new place and must stay over night there.
