Hi, in my religious and personal beliefs I don't believe in taking any blood cultured shots or in blood transfusions. My doctor told me at my last check up that I had to get some sort of a rogam shot, because of my blood type. I've never had this type of shot before in my life and neither has anyone of my friends. any insight/info for my situation?

It's always difficult when religious/personal beliefs and science clash, but please consider getting the rhogam shot.

The issue you're facing is Rh Incompatibility: when a mother with a negative blood-type conceives with a positive blood-type father and may have a positive blood type child. If any mixing between your blood and your baby's positive blood occurs, you will develop antibodies against your baby's blood.

The consequences for your first born could be very slight (or none at all) especially if you don't come in contact with his/her blood until the birth. These antibodies could prevent you from carrying any further children to term, however, or having them be born with severe anemia or hemolytic disease--both of which could kill your baby-- or even causing stillbirth. (It is possible in some cases for babies to receive blood transfusions in utero, but this doesn't sound like an option you would be open to.) If your blood mixes with your baby's early in the pregnancy, due to pregnancy bleeding or medical testing, or if you had anitbodies from a previous miscarriage, your firstborn could suffer the same consequences.

It's a choice you have to make. If you're willing to take the chance with your child's health, and with the knowledge that you may never have another child, no one can force you to take the rhogam shot. Since you don't know what may happen during this pregnancy or your baby's birth, and it's entirely possible that your blood will mix at some point, this might be the best time in your life to put aside your personal beliefs.

Rhogam and BayRho are human immune globulin shots that are supposed to protect your unborn baby from antibodies that you might develop against it if you have a negative blood type and your partner has a positive blood type. If an Rh- mommy is carrying an Rh- baby, eveything should be fine for this pregnancy and future pregnancies. If, since dad is Rh+, the baby ends up Rh+, mom's body sees baby as a foreign body inside her and starts to build up antibodies against it. Those antibodies usually do not harm the baby if it is the first pregnancy, but subsequent pregnancies could be threatened and you may not be able to carry any more children to term. That happened to my Grandma back before RhoGam was used nad she lost a baby when she was 8 months pregnant because of it.

The problem is, life is a crap-shoot and you never know what kind of traits your baby will be born with. I had the shots. My first child had an Rh+ blood type. So, I had two shots after the first was born due to excessive blood transfer from my c-section and three shots during my second pregnancy. My son was just born with an Rh- blood type. You really never know.

RhoGam is still, as far as I know, made from human blood product, but extra tested and filtered. It's not made with Thimerosal anymore, either. Tough decision to make, but if I had to do it again, I'd still have the shots.

I am also RH negative and I have to get the shot at 28 weeks. If you do not get the shot, when you get pregnant again, your body could kills the fetus. If this is already your second child you could miscarry or the baby could be born with a blood disorder or severe anemia. I suggest doing some research on this, beliefs or not, don"t you want what is best for your child. If you do not get this shot your baby could need a blood transfusion to stay alive. Your choice of relgion is your choice not the babys do not punish him because of your beliefs.

If you don't have this injection then you run the very real risk of either this baby or other ones you want to have dying. The Rhogam injection is given becuase your body doesn't have the Rh factor. When you are pregnant, your body then thinks that the baby is a foreign thing and start to produce antibodys similar to the ones produced when you get a virus. So, this pregnancy may turn out OK, but for futures ones your bodu will recognise the baby as a "virus" and attack it, most likely killing it.

I can certainly understand religious concerns, but if you really want children this is something you may not be able to do without. Talk with your doctor about this issue and see if there are any other possiblities for your situation.

is this your first being pregnant? pondering i understand women who are not getting the shot in any respect till AFTER transport - using ability for area effects - i might say it relatively is surely large to attend a week. there is completely threat while your blood mixes with toddler's and there is not any longer something "magical" between week 28 and 29 that'll reason that.

It's a shot for women with RH negative blood. Without the shot, your child can become seriously ill.

It is a shot that makes it so that you and your baby will be fine. Otherwise your blood and the baby's will clash. It is NOT made of blood. It is just like a vaccination. Please get it. Good luck
