A short story is a work of fiction intended to be read in one sitting. It has a limited plot, and usually only a few characters.
A novel is longer, usually broken up into chapters, and has a more complex plot. The setting and characters are more developed.

a short story is a story with a good plot just like a novel except a novel has a lot more detail and pages! you still have to have loads of detail in a short story too but just not as much. a short story would be like 2 or 3 pages of a4 paper whereas a novel is a whole lot more! just think of its as a normal car and a limo. a limo is a lot longer than a normal car but the car still works pretty much the same as the limo!
