I've always been told that the super bowl is always the last Sunday in January. I understand that for the first time the 2002 Super Bowl was played in February due to the Sept 11 attacks. The following year it went back to January. Then, in 2004 it went to February again and has been played in February ever since. Can anyone tell me why it is now played in February???

Longer season ,16 games, and the 2 week difference between the championship games and Super Bowl.
There were a few Super Bowls played with only 1 week in between, some thought that 2 weeks was too long, and too much media coverage would take away from the game itself.
Might be because of the way the calendar is also, with the first Sunday in September falling later than other Sundays from other years.
Pushing the Super Sunday till the 1st Sunday in February. There would be a difference of at least 6 days depending on the calendar.

Because in 2002 the NFL added a bye week between the preseason and the regular season, in order to allow players and coaches to make adjustments, heal injuries, etc. in preparation for Week 1. This pushed everything back one week, so now the Super Bowl, which was the last Sunday in January, has been pushed one week to the first Sunday in February.

Before the 90's it was the next-to-last Sunday in January, until they added a bye week between the conference championships and the Super Bowl.

For a while they tried only having one week between the Conference Championship games and the Superbowl. So it always fell on the last Sunday in January. Then in 2004 they went back to 2 weeks between.

The 2 week wait is all about the money. The teams don't want to wait to play, their used to 1 week prep. But now we'll see non- stop commercials, to food displays in your supermarker. They could never get the advertising done in one week. So no matter when they start, have a bye week, etc. It's all about the money. Why do you think the game starts at 6.30 instead of 1.30. So they can jam one more round of commercials down your throat. Enough already. Play the game.

Whatever it takes to have a two week break after the divisional championship games. The bowl always ends up being sloppy because of the two week break.

The season is one week behind where it was a couple of years ago. But still....yes, they could have chosen Jan31st for the date.

But think about ratings.., Jan 31st is on a wednesday. Feb 4th is on a Sunday.

Huge difference.

i think of the Falcons could desire to pull it off. The Patriots do no longer likely push the ball down the sector and that i think of that could desire to be subject. If the Falcons can get stress on Brady, then the Falcons win truthfully. in the event that they sit down returned, they gets picked to products.
