I am terrified, I have NEVER had a surgery before much less anesthesia. I had a terrible, terrible experience with the epidural for the birth of my son (3yrs ago) so I have a bad anchor. Please recommend which type, general or local I should choose. They are giving me the choice. As much detail would be SO helpful. thanks a bunch. I am so worried. What if I never "come to?"

Don't worry so much! I had general anesthesia for my D&C and all went smoothly. This is not a big procedure. In fact, my friend just had one in the doctor's office without anything. There is always a risk with anesthesia and you must make the decision based on your fear factor and your ability to deal with pain. If you don't want to know from anything - do general. If they are offering an alternative that allows you to be awake and not feel anything take that. But above all, make the decision yourself, not for anyone else.

good luck!

Anesthesia today is very, very safe, still there is always some risk. You don't say what kind of reaction you had with the epidural? If it was a reaction to the drugs, then I wouldn't want a local, either. If it was me, I'd go with the general.

I have had two D&C done in the past one I was total away they just gave me a shot in my leg and it didn't work and I felt everything it hurt so bad, not to scare you. It would be best to be put to sleep, they gave me a anesthesia and I was asleep and I didn't feel anything. It is much better because its a terrible thing to feel. I wish you good luck. Hope I have helped. ANd don't worry you will come to.

You need to talk to the anthisologist and have him explain what the difference between the two are. Then make up your mind. I know it is very scary I have had two surgerys, but you will be fine. Just think positive and pray God to keep you safe. Good luck..

I would let them put me under. I wouldn't want to be awake during that. I've had two miscarriages and was put to sleep with both D&C's.There are going to be risks with any form of anesthesia.
