Most of my family wants me to go to UTPB. And I live in a town close to there. But, my brother recently talked to me and told me that if I don't want to go there, then don't. My family convinced him to go to UTPB and he is supposed to be a senior in college, but he dropped out. He wanted to go to another college and graduate from there in two years in some kind of computer thing. But, he listened to my parent's and now look what happened. Well.....he told me to go where I want to go and not listen to my family. I don't really know where I want to go. A college in Iowa wants me, but that is kind of far. But, San Angelo wants me too. So.....I don't know where to go. Can you please help me??

College is a huge step. The education you get will decide YOUR future. I undestand wanting to make your parents happy, but is it wise to sacrifice your own happiness in the process? You could go there and even graduate from there, but if you're unhappy with the education you're getting, you'll feel less confident when you apply for jobs and start on your career path. You have to get information on any college that is of interest to you and then visit the campus and decide if you like where it is located, the people you meet (students and administration) and maybe even sit in on a class and see if you like the way it is taught, tour resident halls and all kinds of stuff before making a decision. The decision really should be yours though. I went to UNLV because my parents wanted me to and I hated it and ended up moving back to Minnesota- what a long move too. All of it could have been avoided if I just stayed where I was and did what I wanted to begin with.

You need to research colleges and figure out where you want to go. Tell your family you appreciate that they want to help you and support you in furthering your education, but you would rather go to _____ college/ university because (fill in your own reasons). It has to be your decision or else you won't be satisfied. I know, I am in the same mess with my family at the moment. The only way I have figured out to get them to back off is to decide what you want and then let them know. Once they realize you don't need their advice on the subject, they should back off.

Try looking at community colleges that have credits which transfer to bigger universities. That way you won't put yourself in huge debt, you will have viable class credits that transfer, and you can work while going to school to offset the cost.

By working, you can start to think about what you really want to do. That way you can make an informed decision about what you want to study, and then where a good school to go to study that.

Look at the location, the environment, the money, the living arrangements, etc. Look at EVERYTHING and make a decision.

Use GOOGLE to see what reviews say about each school.
DO YOUR RESEARCH!!
