I've tried almost every service out there, and the only one I would reco is Peekamo.com Why, because its free - not only for the sender, but for the person getting the txt.
You really got to go to www.peekamo.com and register for their free service. At peekamo, you can send free TXT messages to anyone in the USA and Canada from your desktop. You don't need to know their carrier or anything. Best part is that it is free, for you and the person receiving the TXT msg. Peekamo uses SMPP not SMTP. You don't have to worry about spam either. You can create groups too. I'm from Canada where if you don't have a plan, TXT messages to the US can cost upto 15cents! Check it out - it really works and its really free. and no spam at all.
Why pay the telco's when you don't have to right!

The best is http://www.cmfsms.com . You can send as many free texts as you want and I always use that when I have no credit on my mobile phone. It's a really good site and the only down side is that sometimes the network gets a busy busy and it takes at the most 10 minutes longer to send the texts. I hope this helps....xxx

Anyone in the US, who recieves or sends text thru the phone pays for it. The phone company does not give anything free. Exception is if you have on of those flat rate plans by companies like Pocket or Cricket. They have a $37 monthly plan, which includes unlimited text messages. You should be able to send text from the computer for free but the other person receiving it will pay whether they like it or not for receiving it.

Set up a " Windows Live " E-mail account. For the time being, Windows Live is combined with Hotmail. You get MSN free with this. Download Windows Live Beta from Windows Marketplace. Hope this helps.
