He is wrong, there are many good people wanting to make a difference.
You are a good example.

There will always be people who are willing to hate and hurt people. I've been unlucky because I live in the south and pretty close to where the KKK was started. I am lucky in the fact that I'm capable in defending myself and have very good friends.
Yes, a lot of people are homophobic, but a lot aren't. I have a grand bunch of friends I hang out with who share my interests. And I've found that the homophobic people are those who I'd rather not be around anyway because they seem to have an IQ level barely above breathing.
Introduce him to your friends if need be, to show him that not everybody is homophobic. Show him that many European countries allow homosexual marriage, Hells, even Canada does. Just because everything looks bleak doesn't mean it has to be.

Most of the homophobic people are the most vocal or violent. Most people are pretty good about it but the homophobes think that if you rub up against a gay then you will automatically turn gay so they have to kill everyone they think is gay or just the ones they don't like.

A lot of homophobic people tend to reserve their hatred or ignoramce. They privatey hide their intolerance. There are more of them i think than accepting people overall. Many people just feel threatened by homosexuality and choose never to discuss their disgust with it so its more avoidable. I wouldnt say that people like you are the minority, as im pretty sure its almost evenly split, but people should have enough dignity to stand up and speak out against something they view as intolerant, like anti-gay speech. Outside of Yahoo! idiocy, there are just as many idiots. Everyone just needs to fight ignorance with education.

Its been my experience that in a forum such as this where anonymity is a given people seem to do things they wouldn't normally do in real life.
Now in real life I've found that people tend to be vocal and resort to stereotyping when speaking of homosexuals in general. I've also found that for me, after getting to know me most people get past all that and sexuality is not an issue. I've only run into one real homophobe in my life and she was so outrageous she made a work situation miserable for eveyone and everyone knew that she was just too stupid to realize how much of a biotch she was.

I've only ever run across two "real life" homophobes. One was my cousin, who got put in his place by his wife! And the other was Rev. Phelps and his sick, inbread family/church.
Since Phelps' clan doesn't live around here, I haven't ever had a problem with homophobes on a daily basis.
Most people I meet are actually quite supportive, caring, compassionate, inclusive people.
Nope, I think every homophobe on the planet only exists in cyberspace.

there are ALOT of followers out there. they will listen to the half truths of a homophobe and follow them blindly. This was proven by the number of amendments to state constitutions that defined marriage as being only between a man and woman.
the key is to get a good voice speaking the truth. then you will see wave of change sweep across america.
this is EXACTLY what happened with civil rights in the 60's with Martin Luther King.

The ignorant bigots who are homophobes are a tiny but vocal minority who ruin things for the rest of us.

I don't think your a minority, maybe in the 60's or 70's heck even the 80's but now, I guess I would go as far as to say we are the new breed of Gay people.....I think its seen now as more expected then it use to be....

Most people don't care so I thought before I came to Yahoo Answers... Now, I wonder how many people really hate us...
I really hope the haters are a really small percentage...

The bad will always overshadow the good and it will always get more attention.
I think more people are open minded but just aren't as loud as the others are. Or they're afraid of saying anything.
