I was flipping through the channels and passed a Polka show. I noticed how most of the people where older. I figured there must have been an age where they started thinking, "Ya know, Polka isn't half bad." I can't imagine young people listening to it so it has to start at some age. What age is it?

At whatever age they are when they attend an Austrian folk celebration. I love all music when it's being played in its element. You know, jazz in New Orleans, ragae (sp) in the islands, Mariachi music in Mexico, etc.

However, as far as just having a desire to set a button in your car to Oompah music, maybe a hundred and ninety four.

Actually, I think the reason you always see old people dancing to polka is because when they were young, there was a limited amount of actual good music around, so polka was on the radio right along with whatever else was poppular at the time. Back in the day, the radio didn't have station formats like they do now, where one station only plays pop and one station only plays country, etc. They just sort of used to mix it all in together, so you were just as likely to hear polka right after a song by Frank Sinatra or Patsy Cline or Elvis or something. So I think that's why old people seem to be the big polka fams- because they were sort of brought up on it.

Some of them start liking salsa and other ballroom dancing. I think that they love dancing but would look ridiculous dancing at the discotheques, or at modern music, so they turn to ballroom. Let people enjoy themselves.
I think it's mostly do it after retirement.
Chances are, you will, too.
