my sister is 5 months pregnant and bleeding. she was told she has a low lying placenta 3 months ago. she was spotting last monday and the doctor told her that the placenta tore a little from the wall but with partial bedrest she would be fine. then this morning she woke up with blood again and a pain when she moved to sit up we called her doctor only to find that the doctor is out of town she is going to the emergency room but her doctors nurse told her not to worry she won't have to go right away cuz the bleeding starts and then stops when she is lying down. i told her to go in right away. i think i did the right thing. but i don't get what could cause bleeding right now. i've always miscarred at 9 weeks she says it doesn't feel like labor just uncomfortable pressure. it almost sounds like she is beginning to go into labor or something is very wrong. can anyone please tell me how to help her deal with this or what causes all this. she is only 17 and scared

GO TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY ! I lost a child at 7 mos preg. from something called placental abruption, that is where the placenta rips from the uterus walls. do not take the chance of this becoming that and make sure to mention placental previa to the attending physician at the hospital. I will be praying for your sister and please heed my words on this it is not at all a joke! Peace, love, and joy to you.

I too am 5 months along. They just found that I have a blood clot in between the two layers of the sack. Yes, the bag that holds the baby has 2 layers they told me these 2 layers usually fuse together by 12 weeks, some how ever do not. I awoke the Friday after Christmas bleeding. I rushed myself to the ER, my hubby met me there. By the time I got there I was losing alot of blood, like your sisters when I laid down the bleeding slowed or stopped. I'm still bleeding today, but it is alot less! The Dr's tell me to aim for 24 weeks then the baby will have a 50% chance, and every week after that increases the baby's odds of survival. Scary YES!! Terrifying DEFINITELY but at 5 months the odds are in her favor!! Good Luck to you all!

It could be from the placenta. A lot of times that is a clue that it is low lying. I have the same thing and I have had a few times of spotting. She should get checked out but should be fine.

If she is bleeding a lot is something to be worried, i had the same thing with my baby, they putted me in bed rest for a couple of days and gave me medication to stop the contractions, tell her to relax because sometimes stress make contractions, and of course go to see the OB.
