My husband has a well paying job and we do not really need the income but I want to remain independent and I would be bored staying home once kids are school age. I need to work from home because I do not want my kids coming home to an empty house or having to live on take out, so I am desperately trying to find a solution. I just need to know if Ebay is the way to go?.

Staying at home with your kids is a great thing to do! It's also nice to be independent. If it were me, I would do some research before starting any business (including an on-line one). No matter what kind of business you have, it is going to require a good deal of time and effort depending on how successful you want it to be. Find out what sort of businesses do well on e-bay - what you would sell, etc. and what the cost would be to you to do so. Then maybe start out slowly and let it get a little success before quitting your other job. Good luck!

An Ebay business is like any other. It will only succeed if you have a plan. What do you plan to sell? Where do you get it? What kind of profit margin will you have? Who will buy your product? Will you have repeat customers? Are there other people selling the same thing on Ebay? If so, can you compete with them? If not, then why not? Can you find the product elsewhere for a better price?

Many people jump into Ebay (or any other business for that matter) with an idea that it is easy money with little or no work. It usually ends up costing them. The people that do succeed are the ones who have done their homework or have gotten lucky. There is no magic item that will always sell on Ebay.

Your best bet is to go there and start doing research into what is being sold. You can learn a lot that way. Find out the general wants of Ebay buyers and see what kind of prices are being paid. Also, figure out what you have access to that you can sell. Do you have a large inventory of collectibles that you can sell? Do you have a supplier that can sell you items wholesale?

Do not assume that your personal tastes indicate what the public wants. I have a few different friends who have tried to start Ebay businesses or online companies selling their art or selling some product that they like. It was great stuff to them, but the public was not that interested.

Something to watch out for are the people scamming. There are lots of people who will try to convince you that they can set you up with a winning Ebay business. They will either want a fee or want you to buy stuff from them. Watch out and be careful with these. First of all, I would not pay a fee for the advice of a company for Ebay sales. A little research and a few books will give you pretty much anything they can offer. Second, if they want you to buy their stuff so you can turn around and make a fortune on Ebay, think why are they selling you the stuff and not just going straight to Ebay? There may be a valid reason, but for the most part they have a lot of high price, low value stuff that they are unloading on you.

Also, it will take quite a bit of work to find a legitmate wholesaler. A lot of companies out there call themselves wholesalers but they aren't. They fall into the high price, low value type of business. You buy their junk and turn around and find that no one wants it and worse yet, everyone is also trying to sell the same stuff.

In any event, think before you do anything. Look before you leap. Don't go whole hog right off the bat. Test the waters. Lets see, are there any other cliches I have not used yet. Oh yeah, a fool and his/her money........oh that won't apply to you, you will do good. Just plan it out first.

I think you should try it out while you are still working. And if you're into it then go for it. People can make alot of money though Ebay and there are many online articles on how to be succcesfull!

Also another idea would be to become a slumber parties distributor if you are comfortable with that sort of thing. They only work some evenings of their choice and make 40 percent take home that night. An average part is about 1000. Thats 400 in your pocket that night!

Ebay can work for you but you must figure you are working out the bugs in the beginning stages. I think people, by saving a dime, don't list their item cost properly and expect the FREE MARKET to cover any and all possible costs derived from selling your item. Remember that question you got wrong when you were 6, covered. People on Ebay are not dumb and they are looking for the best product at the lowest price but you should set your price to reflect the cost you want. Anyway, working with Ebay can get frustrating but maybe not for you and you may even find your nitch. Yea, I would recommend it.

Please evaluate your choice on why to stay at home. How old are your kids? Yes, they may be at school, but, you will not be sitting around the house watching the clock. There are many things to do around the house, just taking care of a home is a job in itself. If your children are not in school, check out my website or the concept of sensory integration to help them learn prior to being in school. Enjoy them now, while you can! If your husband has a well-paying job and you don't need the money, is he supportive of your decision to stay home? Are you feeling like you are giving up your independence to do the best, most amazing job in the world? Being there when the kids are home is still amazing. You don't have to jump in with another full-time career, like Ebay can become, just because you think you will feel useless. And your children don't want to lose a mother to the world of work. Knowing their mother is at home is very comforting to a child at school, as you spend the time with them when they come home, going over the day's events, going over homework, talking, communicating, laughing. You will find the time at home to reflect on things, and to enjoy this time. Don't panic; no one is judging you except yourself. Remember, what you DO is not who you ARE. You will remain, Jane Doe (whatever your name is), till death. You will not remain, SAHM, or former accountant, or scrapbooker. You will always be the best Mom in the world to your children. Remember what you loved to do as a child. Your favorite jobs, classes at high school and/or college. Take up a craft, just for the heck of it. Learn something new. Sort photos into albums. File old papers. Pay bills. There are a ton of things to do. Time goes very quickly. Journal your children's lives, so they will have it when they are older, and they are looking to you for advice on what to do when THEIR kids are their age. Trust in yourself and your abilties. You will grow as a person. Don't make an excuse for being a stay at home mom. God Bless you. :)

well.. my wife and I were in a similar place. We've started a home based business that allows you to start for less than $100... and you don't inventory stuff... you don't sell. and it's something that can benefit you both financially as well as in the health of your home and your family. You can work part time, when you want to, and you can earn a nice income. you may even pass your husband someday!

What would you sell on eBay? I've "tried" to sell & sold on eBay. There are times that people just don't want what you have. It would help to know what you plan on selling. There's no risk. Unless you're planning on buying a warehouse full of crap that you plan on auctioning & then if no one buys it you're out the money.
