i am thinking of buying a PSP i would like to know what is the difference between the firmwares?

Depends on why you are asking. If you just want to know about the firmwares, then it is Sony updating and adding things like web browser and region free player and RSS feed reader that were not there when the PSP first launched. They also add security when each firmware gets hacked for homebrew.

If you are asking because you want to hack it then you are wanting to get one with a firmware version of 1.5 to do it the easiest.

Okay first of all try getting firmware 1.5 from places like ebay etc as you wont get it from retail shops such as hmv game etc. or get any firmware that is under 2.7, 2..60, 2.5 , 2.0 once you get your psp you will have to downgrade it to 1.5 inorder to play downloaded games! if you have the latest firmware for example 3.03 then you cannot play downloaded games on that psp.

The newer the firmware the harder it is to crack and run pirate games.

Don't worry about the firmwares, concern yourself about any meaningful relationships you might have with girlfriend/boyfriends!!!
