Monaco is not a country, it is a principality, and due to this status they are allowed to play club football as a member of UEFA, however should they apply to FIFA to be given full member status then they would lose the right to play club football.

AS Monaco is a club. They do not represent Monaco as a country. They are only based in Monaco.

To put it another way, Monaco has a football club, which is called AS Monaco. The football club plays in France.

Are they not a privately owned club that plays in Ligue 1?

Its not like the club doesn't pay the players wages or anything?

Its not like the players from Real Madrid represent Madrid, they are contracted to the club itself. AS Monaco is a club that has contracted players on the pitch, whats the problem here?
