When I was about 14, I pulled a hangnail from my thumb. Within 2 days, my thumb was swelled like a balloon with a constant pounding pain My mother tried her home remedies on it, but nothing worked. When she saw a red streak going up my arm, we went to the doctor immediately. It was seriously infected which required me having minor surgery on my thumb to clean and scrape the bone. Just want you to know the consequences, so please carry a nail clipper with you. It can turn into a serious issue as I experienced.

mostly its because you are panicing or worrying about something or being idol although i could say seroius thinking sometimes could make you do it still.

Its just one of those habits that get onto you and cannot resist doing it. eg plucking hair..cousine does it when stressed, sucking thumb...nephew's favourite. etc

Best way to avoid that is buy some cream called no bite put it on your fingers such that bitting them doesn't taste good there fore you won't do it. Otherwise its not good and leaves your fingers not looking great. Also think about hygiene reasons....how many places your fingers do touch everyday.

Good Luck

I had that awful problem when i was younger.
I'd do it without even realizing it sometimes it was such a habit. And i'd gnaw on them until they were bleeding and hurting and i'd sometimes have to wrap a bandaid around them just because they looked so bad.
I think for me it was just a habit. I saw my dad doing it alot and I think mayve itjust rubbed off on me. I did do it when i was stressed or sometimes even just bored.
Finally got that polish called No-Bite that puts a bitter taste on them. Its clear and isnt shiny so no one knows its there.
But, if you eat finger food with it on, like fries or anything that gets your fingers close to your mouth, UGH.
Broke my habit tho!

Three methods. 1. cut off your finger tips 2. My wife used to do this so what I did was grew my nails had them manicured until i learned how to manicure them myself, shoved my beautifully groomed nails in her face every day, with words like bet you would like nails like these(not physically you understand, I love this woman) then manicured one of her nails, she loved the look so much ,she wanted all of them done, now we both have lovely nails. 3. Dip your fingers in cow poo every hour
