I'm trying to get some information on these two breeds. Are they the same, or are they different? Also, I'm under the impression that these breeds are gaited. Does either breed actually canter? Or is this breed similar to the Tennessee Walker in that it can canter, but most breeders and trainers do not canter the horse because it can cause pacey-ness? I'd love any information...

Yes they're gaited. Yes they can canter and it does not cause "paceyness" if trained properly. Most gaited trainers/owners who say that do not know how to train or ride their horses properly.

There isn't that much difference between the two breeds unless you are a breed enthusiast-- most of those gaited breeds come from the same foundation stock with a little bit of variation to make it its own breed or to add some sort of specialty to promote the breed.

The two breeds are a lot alike. They are both gaited and have a similar gait to a Walker and/or a Missouri Fox Trotter. But all gaited breeds have different abilities so one Rocky Mountain will move just like a stock horse and the next is perfectly gaited. It all depends on the individual horse. Cantering is usually off limits for gaited horses showing wise but they are of course capable of doing so. And yes, they can get very pacey if you try and step them up to a canter and that is not the most pleasant ride. : )

The breed of horse doesnt actual count number at the same time as using in rocky steep places. Your horse must have good stability and robust thick ankles and robust healthful hooves to ward off injuries on the steep rocks

They are pretty similar. They are a gaited breed and why would you want to canter a gaited horse? Get a quarter horse.

I just looked up the variety of horses and there is no such thing as a Kentucky Mountain Horse. There is a "Rocky Mountain Horse." If you want to know more about this breed or any other breed, go into the website that I furnished you below.
