I would say simply ask them. Surely there is no harm in asking a few friends if they would be interested in trying out a new sport with you. In fact, this same process is what has made all of these other popular sport games so widespread. It will also help if you can find friends or people who are interested in the same dynamics or similar style of the game. For example, since you have not elaborated on what type of sport this is, let us (for the sake of explanation) assume it is a physical contact sport such as football. Now, if your created sport has similar factors like football that requires a lot of running, teamwork, body contact, etc, then it would be more easily received and accepted by those individuals who already enjoy that style of play. Alternatively, if your sport is more of a tactical or stationary type creation such as table tennis or pool, then you can see how asking a otherwise outside, always moving, energetic type person to play a game like that might not interest them as much.
Furthermore, to help spread the idea of your game, you can always do things such as introduce it to places like community centers like the Boys-&-Girls Club or other such areas. This way you can show and teach your new sport to a wider audience than simply just your friends and help promote the expansion of your game by word of mouth. Therefore, as I was saying, the best way to get someone to play is to explain your new game to him or her, and then merely ask him or her. The answer can only be yes or no, however, finding people who enjoy the same style of games as yours is more likely to get you acceptance than declines.
