Fractions are simply division problems.

The top portion of the fraction is called the numerator.

The bottom portion of a fraction is called the denominator (I remember the denominators position because it starts with the letter d for down)

To convert a fraction int a decimal, simply divide the numerator ( this is the part that would go inside the division symbol) by the denominator (this is the number that goes outside the division symbol).

For example, to convert 1/5 into a decimal, you write the 1 inside the division symbol and the 5 outside the division symbol. You then perform the long division. For this example your answer is 0.2
