Yeah, I swam out into a dangerous surf and saved some kid that was drowning. What's the point? Sometimes we need to do things like that.

Yes- and far too many to list. The latest occurred Sunday when I took my skid loader out and cleared a six inch snowfall from the drives of the 5 elderly or disabled residents on my block. I've been doing this for years. I don't ask; I don't take payment if offered.

Many people who have developed a mature mind and taken full responsibility for themselves often find that they are not only able to meet all their own needs, financially and emotionally- but that they have an excess, an overflow which they can share freely with others at no expense to themselves, and without need for compensation of any kind.

If there is a self-interest to the gifts they give, it is to create a trend, where a person given assistance without strings may then feel like doing the same for someone else in need, and pass the kindness along. On a larger scale, it's to improve the world by helping others in some small way, helping to restore faith in mankind- creating a more positive view of life.

It's also they world we all live in, and it's unfortunate that so many find they are willing to take from others, but have so little to give.

If you want to see an awesome example of this kind of kindness, do a search for the story of the "Secret Santa" in Kansas City.

Dear Manish Jee,

I went deeper into the meaning of unselfishness and it made me realize that if I mention any unselfish act of mine here then it will not remain a selfless act any more because I would be taking the credit for it.

I am not the doer of any action, I do not perform any action of selfishness or unselfishness, ALL is done by HIM for HIM, I am (this body is) only the medium for HIS action.

If I take it otherwise, how can I be unselfish. I do everything for myself, everything in the world is mine, every pleasant/ unpleasant thing in the world is mine. Each and Every person is my mirror-image only. It doesn't make any difference if I do something for myself or for other person. I have interest in everything that is being done or happening in this world.

I AM THE BIGGEST SELFISH PERSON OF THE WORLD.

NOTHING IS BEYOND MY SELF(INTEREST).

Now everything is in your hands Manish jee to term me Selfish or Unselfish. I have no interest in your declaration WHATSOEVER.

With Regards

Devendra Rawat

I can smell your question has some fighting sense as to no one can ever be engaged in to a TOTALLY self-less activity!
And, if I say anything positively you are going to negate it the next moment, that those acts are also have some self-interest!!

For example, if I give alms to a begger without any self interest and say "Just, i don't have any faith in other worldly, but JUST I GIVE FOR THE SAKE OF GIVING , you would say easily and immediatley" OH! THEN, GIVING IS YOUR SELF-INTEREST AND IT PROVIDES SOME SELFISH HAPPINESS TO YOU! SO, YOU CANNOT BE SELFLESS PERSON ANYMORE!

We are just caught in to the trap of words and not in to the real meaning and real help behind it!

If you offer YOUR TIME, ENERGY, MONEY OR MATERIAL THINGS FOR SOME ONE out of your love for the sake of your mere HAPPINESS and not expecting from him/ her in return AS A BARGAIN, that can be called as a self-less activity with no/ less self-interst whatsoever!

If you question it in suspicius way, then even we should have to suspect the Buddha, Jesus Christ etc, as they too did their job with some hidden selfish reasons to become FAME!

REMEMBER ONE THING!
When you feed a child starving in a dying-hunger, no body cares for your back ground, character, selfish or selfless person etc., you helped a child, that is enough, you are great! Now the child is alive by your feeding!

And why do, we people always evaluate others who are some how helping, instead of helping ourselves to some one else? But, simply doing research and justifying whether anything done by any one is being done "in a totally "selfless manner" with "no self interest" OR "selfish manner" with "self-interest" & all non-sense?

A cylist, not wearing a helmet, crashed in front of my house. Her head hit the curb and she was bleeding badly. I called 911 and then looked through her backpack. I found her cell phone and called her own number. Her fiance answered and was there within minutes. As soon as he and the paramedics arrived, i just left. Sometimes we all have to step up and do these things. It's not about a reward; it's about doing the right thing when you are presented with that opportunity.

Honestly, I have done several things in a totally selfless manner, but if I were to tell you about it, that would be advertising it, thus asking for praise in return.

Currently I am supporting a freind of mine through a breakup with her boyfriend. I could see many males using this as an oppurtunity to take advantage of her, but I can't stand seeing her hurt.

That's my selfless act right now. Best of luck!

Any time I ever do anything worth doing for someone else... I never put my name to it. I make a point of donating anonymously.

That way, it is not produced of the ego or given to the ego. It helps for the sake of helping without leaving the person feeling at all obligated, me special or entitled, them in shame or less for having taken it and me in some pronounced state of glory for having done it.

I have always let God take, and give where He sees fit.

I came out of a store one day, and I was in a very good mood, on top of the world in fact. This guy came up to me and asked for some change so he could get some coffee to warm himself up. It had been a very cold night, and I happened to have quite a bit of spare change on me so I gave him a twenty and wished him a happy new year, and went on my way.
