Shouldn't there be more to this problem? I know the next step is to make is y = 8-x, but then what?

This is an equation of a line in 2 dimensional space. there are a multitude of possible things that your teacher could want you to do with it.

The first possibility is that they may simply want you to put it into slope-intercept form (y=mx+b).

Or they may want you to figure out the slope of the line ( the coefficient of x).

Another possibility is that they may want you to graph the line.

There may be more possibilities, but with out more information, I cant really help you much.

Hope this helped.

Are you supposed to be plotting a line? Usually if you have to convert it to y=mx+b form, you are looking for the y intercept, x intercept or the slope of the line.

If that is the case, to find where it crosses the y axis, make x=0 and solve .To find where it crosses the x axis, make y=0 and solve.

To find the slope of the line, y=mx+b
or
y=-x+8

b is the slope, so b is 8.

when you have a problem with 2 variables you need at least 2 equations to solve it

This is not solvable on its own
