We started my daughter, who is breastfed, at 4 months on rice cereal based on recommendations from her pediatrician. Due to constipation, gas, etc. the doctor recommended we back off until 6 months. At 6 1/2 months we started again and skipped the rice and went to pureed fruits, vegetables, and oatmeal. It took a few weeks for her to become interested but now she gets mad if we don't shovel it in fast enough and her body seems to be handling it much better.

you know most doctors would say about 5 months old but I have 5 kids and I started feeding them pureed foods at 1-2 months old. They are all very healthy and not fat either just in case someone wants to put in a smart a-- answer. Just don't feed them to much. Start doing it at bed time. They will sleep most of the night.

For a breastfed baby you are supposed to wait until 6 months. Rice cereal can be started at 4 months though.

They say around 6 months for a breastfed baby. But my doctor said at 4 months for a formula-fed baby, and 5 months for a breastfed.
