According to PC Magazine ...
Norton AntiVirus 2005 remains our top choice for virus protection, and the new Internet Worm Protection feature gives added security to those not using a firewall. Our only gripe is that it doesn't distinguish between live viruses and those "killed" by a server-side antivirus tool.
Pros:
Certified by ICSA, and AV-Test.org reports 100 percent detection. Easy scheduling. Scans inbound e-mail, outbound e-mail, and IM attachments. Detailed virus database. Logs viruses. Includes inbound firewall protection.
Cons:
Flags viruses even when already neutralized by server-level antivirus. Response of configuration module can be sluggish.
Mcafee:
Pros:
Certified by ICSA, and AV-Test.org reports 100 percent detection. Easy scheduling. Blocks unknown e-mail worms. Scans inbound e-mail, outbound e-mail, and IM attachments. Has detailed virus database and world map.
Cons:
WormStopper blocks suspicious e-mails based on preset limits, but generates a pop-up for every single e-mail outside those limits. No log of viruses repaired or deleted.

Both are effective, however, I personally would choose Norton Internet Security Suite over Mcafee any day.
*********** Boy oh boy ... can't believe all the strong reactions to these opinions .... it's not like we're critisizing someone's religion, people . *********

I prefer McAfee. Norton is alright, but McAfee seems like it works way better and doesn't slow my laptop down at all. :o)

I, personally think both of them are total garbage....Avast is far superior and it's FREE, or you can buy the Pro version for less than the other two!
I have used Avast ..free version for years, just purchased Pro version for 19.95!!
BTW, Never had a virus!! Avast update sometimes 2-3 times a day!!

Depends on your Attitude.
NIS 2006 was rather hard to use, and so people really hated it. They then switched to Mcaffee,
However, NIS 2007 is MUCH better. But people have yet to see what could be done. Up until last Saturday, the Rebates meant that you could get NIS 2007 for free( 3 rebates, meant that the entire cost for a 3 user item was refunded). But not currently .

Between the two Norton is better. Macafee seems to hide its self and doesn't protect very well. Then when u try to uninstall Macafee, it hides itself.

Both are fairly the same...
Both are also the favorite targets of new viruses. (or their makers)
Norton is a system hogger. (and I heard Mc Afee is too)
I would rather go for Bit Defender, AVG, or Avast.
