I'm black and I guess the way I celebrate it is by having discussions with people.

It's not like there's a huge party and everybody gets a day off, lol. It just brings attention to the accomplishments of black people and their struggle throughout history.

It's not about compensating people, lol.

It's just a matter of informing people and increasing interest in the subject of black history. There are many people that will never study it in school... people who don't have too much exposure to black people... and even black people that don't know too much about their history.

During black history month... it's like... an opportunity... a reason to bring the subject up.

I do not celebrate Black history month. I feel that by having special events like this, that it keeps hate alive.
The University that I go to just instituted a Gay Recognition week, where the BGLAD group (bisexual, gay, lesbian, etc) has drag queen competitions on campus, recongnizes the accomplishments of gay people in our past, etc.
It seems that stuff like that just encourages more segregation between most people and those that are recognized.

I think we should just have "history month" where we recognize history altogether, not just black history. They are not seperate, and they should not be.
