Is this because I'm slightly overweight or does it happen to skinny people too? If I was trussed up like this would I eventually die in a manner similar to crucifiction?

Cut six inches off the chair legs, that way you won't have as far to bend.

Its sounds that you may be overweight qand that your body is crushing your chest as you bend down. Try getting some exercise and next time you go to tie your shoe lace, stand up and put your foot on a stool or something.

Overweight people tend to under estimate their obesity and they will find problems just like your shortness of breath, and much worse, if they don't lose the extra pounds. Get yourself fit or buy slip-on shoes.

Perhaps you need to get a bit more exercise, take a regular walk, if weather permits. Light indoor activities up and down stairs a few times, sitting in chair lifting legs. etc. But don't over do it.

If it is uncomfortable to breathe when you bend over you need to see the doc to find out what is going on. Being overwieght is most likely NOT the cause.

This happens when you are overweight. If you were to lose a few pounds, i bet you would notice the difference. I do.

It is the weight, and quit lying to yourself about how much overweight you are. Did you have the same problem 50 pounds ago?

could be that you are finding it hard to breathe cos you are a little overweight

or it could be that your belt is too tight

or there is the option that your legs are just too long!!!

Losen your belt!! As you bend over everything gets compressed. You either need to losen your belt, or to bend properly (at the knees).
