You will have to explain attractive what you mean by attractive. Is it like investing in real estate or gold or something like that or is it like subsrcibing to something like the Nigerian scams.
The answer is the latter type calls for dumb elements to subscribe.
For the former it is your risk preference. If you invest for say x with 100% probability of gaining a return and say y with 70% probability of gaining b and 30% of loosing the whole bet where b is greater than a. Some people prefer b to a because for adequate values of a and b their return is what they are looking for by each in differnt investment schemes for the risk they are prepared to take. a can be just 20% of investment and b can be say 60% of investment with x as 100000 and y as say again 100000, first provides 20000 with certainity where as for second it is 100000x0.7 + 100000x-0.3=40000.

It is because of the beautiful figures and charts of $ that attract them to the schemes. I would say nowadays schemes are using high level physcology method to attract people. We cannot conclude they joined because of their greed, I would rather say by the ignorance.
