Are you sure you've written these correctly?
3-4x-3=-10x+7+2x+5(1-x)
Expand:
3-4x-3=-10x+7+2x+5-5x
Now collect terms. On the left side, the 3 and the -3 cancel.
On the right, the -10x, 2x and -5x can be added. Likewise, the 7 and the 5 can be added. This gives:
-4x = -13x + 12
Now move things so you've got a factor of x on one side and a constant on the other:
-4x +13x = -13x + 12 +13x
9x = 12
x = 12/9 = 1 1/3 = 1.3333 (repeat)
____
The other problem is what, just to evaluate the expression? Follow the rules: parentheses, powers, signs, multiplication, addition:
-[-(-6)^2] + (-3)(-4) =
-[-(36)] + 12 =
36 + 12 =
48

Well let's look at the first equation. 3 - 3 is zero and 5(1-x) = 5-5x Now we are left with -4x = -10x +7 +2x +5 -5x
Next transpose everything with x to the same side of the eqn. and we get 10x-2x+5x-4x = 7 +5
or 9x = 12 or x= 12/9 or 4/3
In the next expression -(-6)^2 = -36 and (-3)(-4)=12
finally -(-36)+12 = 36 +12 = 48
Hope this helps you a little. Remember your rules for signs and transposing from one side of an equation to the other and you should have no problem

(a.)
3 - 4x - 3 = -10x + 7 + 2x + 5(1 - x)
3 - 4x -3 = -10x + 7 + 2x + 5 - 5x
-4x +10x + 5x - 2x = 7 + 5 - 3 + 3
9x = 12
x = 12/9
x = 1.33
(b.)
-[-(-6)^2] + (-3)(-4) = -36 + 12 = -24

3-4x-3=-10x+7+2x+5(1-x)
-4x = -10x+7+2x+5-5x
-4x = -13x+12
Move -13x to the left side, which turns it positive. Positive 13 and negative 4 give you 9x
So:
9x = 12
Divide to get rid of the 9 on the left side and you get:
x = 12/9 or x = 1.333(repeating).
-[-(6)^2] + (-3)(-4)
-[-1(6)^2] + 12
Do exponents first on the left side:
-[-1(36)] + 12
now multiply whats inside the brackets:
-[-36] + 12
now distribute the -1 outside the bracket:
[36] + 12
Your answer is then 36 + 12
or, 48

The first equation simplifies to
-4x = -13x +12
Adding 13x to both sides then gives
9x = 12
Dividing both sides by 9 gives
x = 12/9
Simplifying the right side gives
x = 4/3
In the second expression, the first two -'s cancel each other, and so do the last two, so the expression is the same as
[(-6)^2)] + 3x4
For the forst part, -6 square dis 36. For the second, 3x=4=12. Hence the expression simplifies to
36 + 12
which evaluates to
