Technically, grams do not measure weight, they measure mass. Weight is the force gravity has on an object, and is measured in Newtons. Mass stays the same no matter where an object is--it is the amount of matter the object has. Weight changes based on gravity--take something to the moon and it weighs 1/6 what it does on earth, even though it's mass hasn't changed.

The poster that said pounds is correct (though many countries don't use pounds)--and the reason you can convert from pounds to grams is that, if you assume both objects are on earth, gravity will be pulling on them with force proportional to their mass. In other words, more massive objects are heavier than less massive ones, if they are on the same planet and feeling the same gravity.

weight is a misnomer
for scientific and engineering purposes, what the general population refers to as weight is called mass
metric unit is gram or kilogram
english unit is NOT pound but slug (also refrred to as poundsforce)
Inertial mass is a measure of an object's resistance to changing its state of motion when a force is applied. An object with small inertial mass changes its motion more readily, and an object with large inertial mass does so less readily.
your 'weight' , reacting force the floor underneath you must have to keep you from craching through the floor. Inert means not moving, the floor that supports you standing on it may NOT support you jumpng on it. Jumping on it implies IMPACT
